Who Made Fall Boys and What Is Inside the Browser Build

Fall Boys: Ultimate Race Tournament is a game by BestCrazyGames, a studio that publishes browser and mobile games on its own site. The copy we embed is a Unity WebGL build hosted on GitHub Pages, where its page title is Run Boys And Girls. Inside, the game still calls itself Fall Boys, and its code links back to the game's page on the BestCrazyGames site. This post looks at what the build is made of and at the parts of the game that the main page does not cover.

The technical side

• Engine. The data file names Unity 2020.3.5f1, and the loader lists the company as BestCrazyGames with product version 38.
• Online play. Matches use Photon, a common networking service for Unity games. The build includes Photon's room, chat and friends code, and the menus say "Waiting for players..." while a room fills.
• Three scenes. The whole game is split into a main menu scene, a game scene that loads each map, and an "Eliminated" scene.
• Desktop and mobile code. The project also contains touch joystick controls and a note that leaderboard wins "count only on mobile android application", which suggests the same game exists as an Android app. The web build we embed does not run on phones.

Things you can do outside a race

Chat

The game has text chat during matches. The prompt on screen reads "press 'Enter' for chat", and the chat panel includes a few emoji. You can turn chat on or off.

Spectating

If you are eliminated, you do not have to leave straight away. The game has a spectator camera with a "spectate next" button that moves between the players still running.

Friends and parties

You can add a friend by their user id, accept friend requests, invite a friend to play and join their party. In a friends room the screen shows "Waiting for host to start...", so the player who made the room decides when the match begins.

Settings

The settings menu has a master volume control, a mouse sensitivity slider and graphics quality buttons (Low, Medium and Ultra). If the game runs slowly on an older laptop or Chromebook, set the quality to Low first.

The mouse and the camera

The camera follows your runner and turns with the mouse, which is why there is a sensitivity setting. During play the game locks the cursor; the on-screen text says "ESC TO SHOW MOUSE". Press Esc when you need the pointer back for a menu or button.

Ads in the game

The build carries ad code from GameDistribution and GameMonetize, along with a "Get Coins&XP" button that plays a rewarded video. Watching it is optional. You can also earn coins and experience by playing matches.

How it relates to Fall Guys

Fall Boys borrows the idea of Fall Guys: a crowd of runners, obstacle courses and qualifying rounds. It is a separate game by a different studio, not an official version of Fall Guys. The original Fall Guys is made by Mediatonic and is not a browser game.
